Múineadh an Bhéarla / English Teaching

Formal English is not taught in Junior Infants. We immerse the children in the Irish language for the first year. In the course of our Irish instruction we actually cover much of the English curriculum but through the medium of Irish. The children begin formal English lessons in Senior Infants where a strong emphasis is placed on quality lessons to ensure that all children attain a very high standard of the English language. Great attention is paid to Language development, reading and writing in Senior Infants. Independent reading is strongly encouraged from an early age with an implementation of the Shared Reading scheme in junior classes. The children will learn to read first in Irish and the following year in English.
