An meon
atá againn ina thaobh ná gan rud mór a dhéanamh as agus ansin déanfar na
ceachtanna sa slí céanna is a múintear ábhair scoile eile leo. Ach tuigimid
chomh maith gur ábhar mothálach atá i gceist ann. Tá an rogha agat gan cead a
thabhairt do do pháiste a bheith páirteach sna ranganna. Cé nach molaimíd an
cinne seo a dhéanamh déanfaimíd do pháiste a bhogadh ón rang fad atá na
ceachtanna á dhéanamh. Is gá cuimhneamh air áfach nach féidir linn a bheith
cinnte nach mbeidh na páistí a bhí páirteach sa rang ag caint faoi sa chlós
agus mar sin níl fhios agam an féidir do pháiste a scairiúnt go hiomlán.
Bheimís ag súil nach aon cúis magaidh / gáire a bheidh i gceist ann pé scéal é
mar sin gach seans nach mbeidh aon caint faoi.

Is féidir
leat nóta a cur go dtí do mhúinteoir ranga nó dul ag caint léi roimh an
tseachtain sin. Muna chloisfimíd uait glacfaimíd leis nach bhfuil fadhb ar bith
agat leis.

Dear
parents,

We will
begin Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) along with the Stay Safe
Programme on the 19/06/2019.

The
vocabulary to be covered for the infant classes is:

My body:

  • Identify external parts of
    the male and female body:

    Head, eye, ears, nose, breast,
skin, hips, navel, vagina, penis, bottom, knee, leg, foot.

  • Become aware that growth is
    unique for each individual

‘That John is taller than Donal and that is normal and good’

In 1st
and 2nd
class the following words will be covered:

  • mouth: swallowing, chewing
    food, breathing
  • nose: breathing, smelling
  • vagina: opening where a baby
    leaves a mother’s womb
  • penis: passing urine
  • urethra: passing urine
  • breasts: feeding a baby
  • navel: where a baby was joined
to its mother before being born

In 3rd&4thclasses the above vocabulary will
be revised and under the heading “Growing and changing” pupils will be expected
to be able to discuss the stages and sequence the development of the human baby
from conception to birth.

In 5th
Class
the
above vocabulary will be revised and the children will learn more about the
physical changes that take place during puberty for boys and girls. The
menstrual cycle will be outlined and discussed.

In 6th
Class

Beginning the first week of June, as part of the RSE programme for Rang 6, we
will be showing the class the “Busy Bodies” DVD and booklet in school.

If you
wish to view the book or DVD beforehand, they are available for
parents/Guardians on the following website:

https://www.healthpromotion.ie/health/inner/busybodies

Our
attitude is to try not to make a big issue of it and to therefore teach the
lessons as we would any other subject. However we do understand that it is a
sensitive subject area: You have the option to withdraw your child from taking
part in the sensitive classes to do with My Body. We really don’t encourage this
decision but will respect your wishes and move your child out of the class into
another room for the duration of the classes. It has to be borne in mind,
however, that we can’t be sure that the children that will have been in the
class won’t be talking about it in the yard and therefore I don’t know if your
child could avoid it fully. We would be hoping that there won’t be any cause
for joking / laughing on the subject so it’s likely that there won’t be any
talk about it anyway. But again we can’t guarantee it won’t come up again in
another subject.

 You
can send a note to your class teacher or go and talk to him/her before that
week. If we don’t hear from you we will take it that you don’t have any problem
with it.
